I was going to ask if it's weird to eat endives raw, in salad form, but I've been doing it for two days and am still alive, so I'm assuming it's perfectly fine. They're tasty, with a hint of
shpiciness, and I have been enjoying them with evoo from the hills of Lebanon (
contact me, I'll hook you up), and a little balsamic vinegar with a HUGEEEEEE TON of grated ginger.
Don't ask why, but I have been sneaking chunks of ginger from the fridge. Literally, just biting them off. Okay..not that savagely, but chewing them raw, and they taste epic! They burn, sting, then turn sweet in my mouth..I LOVE IT.

Hi Amy, have been following your blog for a little while now, great reading so far!
ReplyDeleteI am a ginger fanatic, I can't get enough of it. I add it to most salads, always to a stir fry, and grate extra into my already-potent ginger tea...so I completely understand the burn-sting-wonder you describe!
It's crazy how some people can't stand it, crazy!
Other than ginger-love, I enjoy swishing raisins and soy milk in my mouth together. lol sounds really weird, but whenever I'm snacking on raisins at home, I always have a gulp of soy milk with the last handful...tastes great!
Laura :)
ha! i love ginger but never thought to eat it raw like that. i bet i'd like it. hmmm, weird habits... i used to drink pickle juice... and i love buttered toast with ketchup. there's more but that's all i can think of now.=)
ReplyDeletei just noticed you left a comment a while ago about how i eat my veggies. i don't own a juicer (but would love one). for now i make smoothies and lots of salads. i've been making a maple balsamic vinaigrette that's sooo yummy. i could send you the recipe if you'd like!
ps - i love raw endive in garden salads with balsamic vinegar. great combo! yum!
ReplyDeleteWowzers on the ginger! I enjoy it raw but I don't snack on it like you do. hee hee! And I know I have weird food habits but can't seem to think of any at the moment. :( And what is this awesome evoo you speak of? We love gooood evoo!
ReplyDeleteI just saw your comment! You've seen BG live? I'm jealous. I've heard from others that they're awesome live.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently living under a boatload of homework, at least 'til finals!! I assume you are too, haha.
Hey Heidi, the evoo is really nothing like you've ever tasted. It tastes like pure, liquid olives, what you'd expect from regular olive oils, but it's organic, and made from olives picked and grown from the area of Baino in Lebanon (at an altitude of 550 m above sea level.) I can give you my email and send you info, prices, etc. My father's company imports it from overseas. You'll love it!
ReplyDeleteHey Amy, just had a nice wee browse of your blog and wanted to say I bloody love it!! :) x
