tropical fruit testing exhibit A.

I'm going to post about tropical fruits, whenever I get a chance to try them. I saw guanabana the other day while walking through chinatown. I got so excited, because this fruit reminds me of Cuba. While in Cuba almost everyday I'd have a chance to taste wild fruit, this was one of them. The fruit tastes sweet, but zingy, almost like the crackle candy you buy that pops in your mouth. You don't eat the seeds, but the surrounding white flesh of the fruit is to die for. It's like smooth cream that is shaped like curved pockets, just packed in together beautifully. The other name for this fruit is soursop. If you get a chance to try it, do so! Also, if you can do it while listening to M.I.A's song Bamboo Banga, I guarantee it will enhance your eating experience.

heaven sandwiched between two cookies.

PRESENTING!!!

THE ICE CREAM SANDWICH.

cookie: raw oats (sub raw coconut flakes)/raisins sulfite-free/carob powder/cinnamon/vanilla extract/one ripe banana/2 dates or agave

ice cream: ripe bananas frozen, then blended, then refrozen

VERDICT: Cute, for show, easy to make, defrost before eating, next time freeze cookies beforehand, then add ice cream to them. Other flavours to test, strawberry coconut ice cream, pineapple-coconut (pina colada), banana-chocolate, mango, etc. All in all, GREAT SUCCESS.

SUMMER IS HERE!!!!

EXAMS.

ARE.

OVER.

Crazy story, but yesterday I invited a friend to go biking all day, two minutes before she was supposed to come a classmate called me, reminding me of the two exams I had. Long story short, I wrote the exams, and finished in time to enjoy the beautiful weather outside!

I made a summer salad for my mum and I, and a pitcher of cilantro kiwi mojitos! It was out of this world, and even though my backyard is in its pre-landscaped phase I thought I was off the coast of somewhere hot and beautiful.

Kiwi-Cilantro Mojito
2 Kiwis
Water
Rum
Few Dates
Lemon juice
a handful of cilantro, stems and all.

PAPAYA.

papaya for breakfast.
I got allergies for the first time in my life, 3 days ago. I've been experiencing all the symptoms, and it sucks. This fruit woke me up, and godd, tasted so good. I think people either love papaya or hate it, what's your stance?

Sarma's Cilantro Shake

Ingredients:

pink grapefruit

cucumber

lime

pineapple

cilantro bunch

agave nectar/stevia

pinch of salt

big pinch of cinnamon

vanilla extract

BLEND. I used a tiny big of orange instead of grapefruit, no agave or stevia, and no cinnamon. It came out mild, but VERY juice-like. The picture is heinous, and does not do it justice, sorrs! What did you have for breakfast today?

OH MAGNIFICENT JUICE.

I present to you,

green juice. In it's purest form.

MADE FROM A BLENDER.

that's right, even I can't believe it. It took over an hour to make but I didn't know what I was doing, AND I didn't have a nut milk bag. To top it all off, this was made with all the remaining greens and fruits in the house: 1 green apple, 1 red apple, on the brink of life and death--collard greens, and the butt of a cucumber. I added fresh ginger pieces, 20 oz of water with lemon juice, and 3 small dates. I used a metal strainer and stood over it mushing with a big spoon for about 30 minutes, but it was SO worth it. Next purchase: nut milk bag. I think I'm just surprised since the blender contents, pre-juiced tasted all gritty and garden-like. Post-straining the juice, however tasted slightly sweet and refreshing with a hint of cucumber and ginger.

i just want to kiss it...my little juice baby.

IT'S A GREEN DAY.

collard greens
pear
green apple
banana

this recipe makes a very creamy and delicious drink without nuts or seeds used!

i'm likin' the whole breakfast in a jar thing.

noon

cucumber salad with cilantro

lemon, pinch of sea salt, olive oil, parsley.

I had some steamed edamame on the side, which I don't think is raw, but I saw this video from the Renegade Health Show with Kevin Gianni and it talked about how some people, for the sake of eating 100% raw limit themselves to uncooked sources for the best protein, fiber, and nutrients. The speaker was showing the contrast between eating raw goat's milk, cheeses, and egg for example and having steamed broccoli, lentils, or sweet potatoes, for example. He said by all means the steamed vegan counterparts surpass the raw dairy choices in health and nutrient benefits.

Also, about the soy controversy, soy is leaning towards the bad side of the scale. In excess amounts, and in little amounts, it is still a common allergen. For vegans, if soy should be consumed it should be kept to its whole and natural state. Not in tofu products, or tempeh, or soy milk. I guess that's the next thing I'm going to be focusing on. I do notice more mood changes when I eat a lot of soy products, which makes sense since it contains estrogen.

What are some things you avoid, have had bad experiences with or even have questions about?

i am CRUSHING schoolwork.

I had a bio exam from 7-9 yesterday, which was the focus of my studying for the past week, meaning I could not begin writing my 8-9 page essay until after the exam was finished, due at 2PM today, with the addition of a music theory exam that began at 2. So basically, theory is being left in the dust. I did manage to finish the essay in 2.5 hours, how I accomplished that, I have no idea. BUT I'm not complaining!

I drank lemon water throughout the day yesterday, and I must say I reaped some benefits by doing that one thing. My skin was very clear today! Here's my breakfast, delicious mango. The green thing is a piece of a collard green twisted to look like a tulip..I don't think it turned out right. This just reminded me of the line from Bend it like Beckham, when the dress fitter tells the girl, "We're going to make your mosquito bites look like, juicy, JUICY mangoes!" haha.

EXAAAM WEEEK.

Weird, before typing I realized I had been cutting off the circulation in my pinky with a hair tie..

ANYWAY, exams this week, and next week, and the week after. Just thought I'd show what I'm going to have for lunch. The salad is a spring mix with olive oil, walnuts, carrot-ginger sesame dressing with dried cranberries. The nori rolls, which I expertly rolled myself are with the same carrot pulp dressing. Like fake rice, I just processed it with sesame oil, nama shoyu, and ginger powder with celtic sea salt, then added spring mix since the only vegetables in the house are broccoli, and collard leaves.

Happy Easter Weekend!

Spending time with family has sky rocketed my happiness levels through the roof. School doesn't allow me too much time to see them, I commute and sometimes I'll be home so late they'll be asleep already. IN OTHER NEWS. I'm still keeping up with green smoothies, this morning was super special, I used a banana, romaine lettuce, and one ataulfo mango. I wish I had used spinach or something else because the taste of the mango didn't come through as strongly as I liked but the colour was unreal. It was almost fluorescent green!

Also, since it's Easter Weekend, I wanted to know what that meant for you. What are some traditions, or things you do with your family or friends? For me it's about celebrating Jesus' victory over death and sin, going to church and enjoying a meal with family a friends.

trust me, it was fluorescent.

APRILLLL.

If you've read my past posts you know that every month I make a series of goals and attempt to reach them. SOOO for this month I've done some serious thinking, and pondering, and contemplating and have chosen two solid goals, one relating to health and the other to fitness.

1) Crucial to my health, is the urgent need to marry Adam Rodriguez. The hottie aka Eric Delko from CSI. [April Fools] This a joke..I think, but I'm actually experiencing slight obsessive behaviours towards him after seeing Tyler Perry's, "I Can Do Bad All By Myself"--Go watch it!!

2) Fitness goal: Return to my love of running, 45 min by the end of April.

What are your goals for April?

OHHHH MY.
